On Friday June 25, KWB staff will donate $5 each to Habitat for Humanity in exchange for the opportunity to wear jeans to work. We look very forward to shedding our stuffed shirts in service of a worthy cause.

Important news from the Canada Revenue Agency Re: RZ accounts.

The Canada Revenue Agency (“CRA”) has been sending notices advising businesses of the creation of a new Filer Identification Number (“FIN”) for their business. The purpose of the new FIN number is to create a detailed numbering system that will simplify the way CRA handles various accounts. 

Beginning January 1, 2010, CRA will implement a new FIN that will end with an RZ suffix (see below). This new FIN will be used when filing your T5’s, T5007’s, and T5008’s. It is important to know that, if you issue T5013 or T5018 slips, you will need to request a separate RZ account number for each of these types of slip.

Current federal business number:        12345 6789 RC0001

New FIN number:            12345 6789 RZ0001

The first RZ account will be coded RZ 0001; however, if additional accounts are needed, they will be coded RZ 0002 to RZ 0004.

CRA will automatically be creating RZ account numbers during the months of November and December, 2009 for businesses that require them.  Letters will be sent to inform businesses that have been affected.

If you did not receive a letter, CRA has not created an RZ account for your business; however, should you require the new RZ account number but have not received confirmation from CRA, you will need to complete the RC257 form which can be found on CRA’s website when you type RC257 into the search bar.

You can have this account closed by contacting the CRA if you have received a letter, but you are no longer required to file any of the T slips mentioned above.
