How to Set Strategic Business Goals

As a business owner, it’s easy to get lost in the day-to-day activities of running your operation. It can be difficult to carve out the time you need to focus on the big picture and the future of your business.

Strategic goal setting is an important task that’s worth your attention. It will help you identify long-term objectives for your business – one of which will likely be spending less time IN your business and creating more time to work ON your business. It will also allow you to focus on how to create the business and lifestyle you desire.

Setting Strategic Business Goals

When setting strategic business goals, consider what you want to achieve. Do you desire greater profit? More time savings? Increased efficiency? A new location?

With your overall objectives determined, you can build your goals using the SMART goal framework. Create goals that are:

  • Specific
  • Measureable
  • Attainable
  • Relevant
  • Time-bound

From there, you can create an action plan with targeted milestones that will hold you and your team accountable to achieving your goals. Setting goals is helpful in defining your priorities, guiding your team, measuring your success, and ensuring that your business is on the best path forward.
